​​​​​​​About The Saudi- Emirati Coordination Council

Vision:​


The Council aims to create a unique model for integration and cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates regionally and in the Arab world through joint strategic projects which will lead to achieve sustainability in security and prosperity for the two brotherly peoples.

Council Objectives:

  • Develop a joint vision between the two countries to consolidate and sustain their bilateral relations within of the GCC objectives.
  • Enhance the integration of both countries’ economic systems and find innovative solutions for optimal utilization of current resources.
  • Build an integrated educational system based on the strengths of both countries to prepare highly qualified generations.
  • Consolidate political, security and military cooperation between the two countries in an integrated manner in order to enhance the security of both countries.

Ab​out the Council

Foundation:

Based on the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to consolidate their brotherly relations, and due to their desire to intensify bilateral cooperation through continuous consultation and coordination in many fields, and based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, may God preserve him and his brother His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, may God protect him, the Saudi-Emirati Coordination Council was established in May of 2016.

The purpose of establishing the council:

The council aims to consult and coordinate on common interest in different matters and topics in all fields.

The board activation:

The “ Khalwat Al`azm” (The Retreat of Determination) was held to activate the Saudi-Emirati Coordination Council as a platform for consultation and coordination between joint work teams to propose and discuss initiatives and projects within the various vital sectors between the two countries.

The Saudi-Emirati Coordination Council meets once a year.

The Executive Committee:

Under the Council`s Presidency there is an executive committee at the ministerial level that meets (twice) a year, and the meeting is held in either country alternately.

The Executive Committee Secretariat:

The chair of the committee's secretariat rotates between KSA and UAE yearly.

The Executive Committee Secretariat links between the Executive Committee and its integration committees, and all decisions of the Coordination Council should be approved through the Committee's Secretariat.

The Role of the Secretariat of the Executive Committee:

  1. Work with various bodies to create and activate the Council's initiatives.
  2. Ensure the progress of initiatives.
  3. Provide various strategic consultations to the bodies from the Saudi side.
  4. Ensure that initiatives and projects align with the council’s vision and objectives.
  5. Activate dialogue between the two countries through different platforms such as presidential meetings, executive and integration committees, in addition to workshops.
  6. Overcoming the obstacles facing work teams on both sides and report them if needed.

Integration Committees:

Five complementary subcommittees emanate from the Executive Committee, which is responsible for detailing opportunities, projects, and work programs. These committees formed based on the most important areas of cooperation, and they have a direct role in following up on implementation. These committees can be formed when needed.

The Advisory Committee from the private sector:

Based on the importance of activating the partnership between the public and private sectors, and the important role that the private sector plays in the relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, it was decided to form a committee that includes several businessmen and women from both countries.
